5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting a Business
Chances are, you’re reading this because you’re serious about starting or growing your business this year. Congratulations! I believe in you, and I’m excited for you to reap the benefits of being an entrepreneur. A few years ago, I left the corporate world to merge my passions for health and wellness and sustainability with my love of freedom. I can confidently say I will never look back.
However, there are a few things I wish I had known when I set out on my own to make the transition easier. So, I’m sharing them with you so you can embark on this exciting new chapter with added clarity and confidence.
You’ll never feel completely ready.
Life rarely unfolds in neat beginnings and endings. We’re constantly evolving and experiencing unexpected challenges, so there will never be a perfect time to make a major change. The best thing you can do is take the lessons you’ve learned and apply them now while committing to continuous growth. We gain the best life experience by doing, not theorizing or waiting.
Limits exist only in the mind.
When you believe you can’t do something, it’s usually due to conditioning. Fear is an easy place to hang out because it keeps us from pushing past perceived limitations. But fear creates stories that aren’t true, and those stories tend to keep us from living the lives we want. When you begin working through your limiting beliefs, you’ll realize how limitless you really are. And at the end of the day, what is scarier: taking a leap and believing in yourself or being exactly where you are in a year or two’s time?
A support network is everything.
It’s hard to stay motivated when you’re the only one in your circle doing what you do. Support networks are like shortcuts to accessing more knowledge, helpful methods and encouragement. Your uniqueness is your superpower.
Instead of trying to relate to everybody, lean into what makes you unique and the right crowd will come. Weave your strengths and interests into your brand, and you’ll develop strong relationships with customers who can relate to you.
Small goals keep you consistent.
Being an entrepreneur becomes easily overwhelming when you’re always looking at the big picture. Having long-term goals is great, but you need smaller ones to help you get there. Take your big dreams and break them down into bite-sized actions you can take daily. This will keep you motivated and allow you to adapt as needed.
