5 Ways to Make Better Decisions
Everything you do in life is a choice. Does that frighten or excite you?
There’s no wrong choice, only the one you get to live with. Sometimes making a choice can feel too hard, but not choosing is also a choice. You decide to stay exactly where you are, not changing anything and achieving the same results.
Since you can’t get out of making choices, here are five ways to move past indecision quicker and make the best choices for you.
1. Broaden your perspective, but not too much.
Consult with experienced people who can contribute expertise but limit open feedback. Too many perspectives can result in more indecision, so only involve others who can provide informed, valuable input. The same goes for any other information-gathering you need to do.
2. Believe in yourself.
You are the expert of you. Identify and work through societal conditioning and limiting beliefs that make you feel otherwise because taking the lead in your life is up to you. You will always be a work in progress, so you don’t need to heal everything before you make a decision. Practice daily mindfulness, journal your values and desires and listen to your intuition along the way.
3. Consider the impact of your choice.
Every decision comes with a potential risk. Instead of letting them fester in your mind, write them all out on paper. This lets you weigh the pros and cons practically and remove some of the fear around them. Pay attention to trends. Are you focusing on how your decision will impact others or prioritizing your genuine happiness? Your needs should come first.
4. Dream big, do big.
Say you want more out of life, like making a full-time income from your laptop, traveling the world and becoming your own boss. Ask yourself: Does your decision take you closer or further away from those goals? Why are these goals important to you? If you can dream it, you can do it.
5. Embrace the unknown.
Remember, there is no perfect time to make a big decision, but life is too short to fade further from the life you really want. While you can’t predict everything, life always works out better when you stay true to yourself. Sometimes, the toughest choices bring the best results because growth exists outside of your comfort zone.
