How to Afford the Life You Want
The ego’s job is to keep you safe. So, the knee-jerk response of “I can’t afford this” to a life-changing experience is the ego trying to protect you from the unknown. The problem is the ego would always rather keep you comfortable, even if it doesn’t make you happy, because it knows how to manage what’s familiar.
So, when a new opportunity comes knocking, the ego wants to SHUT. IT. DOWN…FAST!
Thankfully, you are not your ego. Or your thoughts. Or your worries, for that matter. So, when you’re presented with an opportunity to improve your life, give your ego permission to quiet down and rest while you get curious.
It starts with a simple reframe. Instead of writing off an expense by saying, “I can’t afford this,” asking yourself, “How can I afford this?” automatically sets you up to find creative solutions to make something work for you. You become resourceful, empowered and excited as you step out of a scarcity mindset.
Ego vs. Intuition
As you open yourself up to soul-powered possibilities, you’ll start to hear another voice from within. It’s called your intuition, and it’s different from your ego. It’s the inner wisdom that will help you navigate the unknown. For instance, if you’re presented with a business opportunity that seems too good to be true, your intuition might want more information. Here’s a rule of thumb: The more transparent and accessible the leadership, history and facts about the opportunity are, the higher its credibility is.
Our community tries to be as transparent as possible about its origins and offerings, and the more I learned about it, the more my intuition helped me spring into action. I’m so glad I did because I’m afforded more time, travel and location freedom than I ever dreamed possible. All I had to do was get out of my own way.
Tips to Afford the Life You Want
If you’re interested in investing in a business opportunity that can change your life like I did, here are some practical ways to afford the change.
Manage your mindset
If you tell yourself, “I can’t afford this,” ask yourself, “Why do I feel like I can’t?” Is it because you don’t feel you have the time? Do you feel undeserving of a different life? If you had everything you wanted, what would it look like? Is something keeping you from believing that life is meant for you? Sitting with these big questions will help you visualize what you truly want and how to get there. It can be scary to face your fears and perceived limitations, but once you do, you realize how limitless you really are.
Focus on value vs. price
Instead of getting hung up on the price tag, consider the overall value the product or service provides. Evaluate how it will meet your needs, solve your problems and enhance your life. This approach will help you make a more informed decision based on long-term benefits.
3. Practice gratitude for what you have
Determine the areas where you’re already wealthy. Think about the things you already possess and the experiences you’ve already had. Shifting your focus can help you reduce the urge to buy when saving for something big.
4. Learn financial literacy
If you can’t visualize yourself managing more money, you can’t welcome more money into your life. Educate yourself about personal finance, budgeting and investing. This way, you can make more informed decisions about life-changing purchases, differentiate between financial wants and needs, and learn to be more thoughtful about spending and saving.
5. Pause and reflect
Before making a financial investment, take a moment to sit with whether the expense aligns with your values and priorities. Consider its potential impact on your goals and well-being.
You only have one life, so passing on an opportunity that could help you live most aligned and authentically because of fear will only keep you from accessing your deepest joy.
